Panda Facts
Characteristics
The Giant Panda is one of the most recognisable animals in the world. It has a white coat with black fur around the eyes, and on the ears, muzzle, legs and shoulders. Males are around 10% larger than females. An adult male panda can weigh between 85-125kg and grow to around 1.9m long.
Diet
Bamboo is the Giant Panda’s main food source which makes up 99% of their diet. Today human settlements prevent pandas from moving between areas to find bamboo.
Why are Giant Pandas vulnerable?
The main threats are habitat fragmentation, population isolation, infrastructure development , tourism and climate change.
